Wow! I loved this! A unique choice to make it from a decidedly unlikable MC, but that made it all the more engaging. The lyrical writing immediately made me go see if there‘s going to be an audiobook. There is! I loved seeing Aífe‘s journey, I just wish there was more of it. It‘s supposed to be 900 years, but it was so short. ?????

Feminist retelling of the Children of Lir story from Irish mythology. Wow, this is intense! And dark. And deeply melancholy. But so beautifully written - just so poetically haunting. Told from the POV of Aífe, the 'evil stepmother'/aunt that turns her sister's 4 children into swans. The gloomy introspection is fascinating to a point but does drag a little/get a tad repetitive. Deeply moving in parts, downright depressing in others...⬇️⬇️⬇️

readingjedi Continued from above...I'm glad I read it for the gorgeous writing but also glad I finished it as I struggled to find any joy/positivity/redemption amongst the sadness and I was left feeling downbeat. 3y
