David Bowie
David Bowie | Robert Dimery
2 posts | 5 to read
A relentless innovator, scoring chart hits while simultaneously incorporating radical and ground-breaking elements into his work. As with all great pop stars, Bowie's image changed with almost every new album release. This appetite for reinvention, both musically and visually, saw him dubbed the 'chameleon of pop'. But Bowie's influence extended well beyond his discography and make-up drawer. His androgynous qualities and public statements on his sexuality proved liberating for those who were uncertain about their own. Lives of the Musicians: David Bowie covers the years he spent struggling to find the right artistic outlet to the dramatic breakthrough in 1972 with Ziggy Stardust - and afterwards, the excessive lifestyle that nearly cost him his sanity. It continues with his artistic rebirth in Berlin during the late Seventies, the mainstream success he achieved with Let's Dance in 1983 and the artistic price that he paid for it.

Congrats Robert Dimery on the release of the new Lives Of The Musicians series about Iconic #DavidBowie.
I Loved reading about his more obscure songs of the early days! Silly Boy Blue is a favorite of mine. 😉

Although, this isn‘t my favorite biography about Bowie. It did have some different prospective on his life.

Thank you @NetGalley & @LaurenceKingPub in exchange for an honest review.

“David Bowie was a restless innovator, scoring chart hits that broke radical new ground. His image changed with almost every album... This book charts his evolution in the sixties, his euphoric reinvention in 1972 as Ziggy Stardust and the excessive lifestyle that nearly cost him his sanity. It revisits his artistic rebirth in Berlin, the global stardom he achieved with Let‘s Dance in 1983 and his triumphant farewell, Blackstar.”

suvata I was a hardcore fan — I saw him like eight times in concert, including a Ziggy Pop concert when he was just there to play the piano. Those were the days! 3y
Crazeedi @suvata weren't they though! 3y

Lesliereads Prior to his death in 2016, I got a chance to experience a magnificent multidisciplinary retrospective of David Bowie‘s work at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. It included costumes and instruments, videos, photos, interview and concert footage, and of course loads of music that had visitors dancing throughout! One of my favorite museum experiences of all time - especially since I never saw Bowie perform live. 💘 3y
LinesUponAPage @Lesliereads i never saw him perform live either! Sounds wonderful! Lucky lady, being able to go to that museum experience! 3y
