This book, in essence, is an argument for two positions: (1) materialism of mind; and (2) that differences in capabilities of mind between creatures should not generally be seen as categorical, rather matters of degree. I agreed with (1) beforehand. As for (2), I think that the author‘s position is fairly well argued. He‘s not quite as successful with some of the other positive elements of his thesis. It‘s a good read, esp if you like philosophy.
