I liked the idea of this second book, but there wasn't much substance. Most of the book was "oh no, they must have fallen out of love with me" even though there were much more interesting storylines. The major conflict was also solved quickly at the end, making the build up lackluster with such a quick resolve.

Finished the Queen's Secret...at 1am! The ending to the story was interesting, it did suit the medieval aspect of the story, and there was personal change in some of the characters. Lilac and Cal had a stronger dynamic in the sequel, even when they had to stay apart. Also, there was a lot of mystery, intrigue, and turmoil erupting that it made this sequel a gripping fantasy.

Almost did not sleep last night, I wanted to squeeze out the last 100 pages of The Queen's Secret. So much turmoil, suspense, and no hope for anyone defeating the dark force in the book.

The day she married, Lilac's allegiance was bound to another man. Cal's been a fool, pretending his intimacy with the queen would continue indefinitely.
They made promises to each other, pledged their hearts, but in reality there is nothing that keeps them together but small key to a secret room.
His duty is to go where the Small Council sends him. And Lilac's duty is to her realm--and her husband.

Reality has set in. Lilac is the queen, and she has a duty to perform. He understood that the day she decided to marry Hansen--save Cal's life. She made a huge sacrifice so Cal could live.
But now it feels like too high a price to pay. Today's meeting of the Small Council reminded Cal that he will always be nothing but the queen's servant--the assassin. He must obey orders.

Started The Queen's Secret this week, and the storyline is picking up pretty quickly, and there's a lot of personal tension between Cal and Lilac.

I was nervous to start this one because I was afraid it wouldn‘t be as good as the first book. So far so good, though!
