This was an engaging and beautifully illustrated book. It taught me a lot, introduced me to quite a few people who‘s work I want to follow, and helped clarify some concepts for me. It‘s beautifully inclusive as well.

A really lovely book that highlights a diverse swath of inspirational Native people. I was familiar with more of them than I thought I‘d be going in. My only minor critique is I wish there had been more representation from Northeastern tribes, who I feel are often underrepresented. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #NonfictionNovember
This is the tenth person I read about and the only familiar name. It is deplorable that I know so little of #IndigenousPeople
I am one of those Americans who did not know. I‘ll have to read more about this.
Just saw that this book will be released on 19 Oct.
It celebrates the lives & contributions of 50 notable American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian people.
Written by Adrienne J. Keene, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She writes about representations of Native peoples in popular culture in her blog Native Appropriations.
An excellent and expansive overview of exactly what the title says: notable native people you should be aware of but probably aren't. I've been actively trying to read more books by Indigenous authors, and I learned about so many incredible historical and contemporary figures doing important work.
