This is great so far and an enjoyable, informative read written in a relatable, non-scholarly voice. #NFNov #NonfictionNovember

I'm a Fiction Reader. I like escaping real world problems and immersing myself in worlds like Gail Carriger's Paraverse or AU of Casey Mcquiston's Red, White, & Royal Blue. But every now & again I get in the mood to listen to stories of fascinating people. This month it was mostly musicians and Scotsmen. Autobiographies read by the author add extra level of enjoyment. 📚

The first half of this book has the same topics I heard when I saw Ferguson on his stand up tour. The second half was material new to me, which I enjoyed. Always a fan of his since one of my daughters introduced me to his late night show so many years ago! I still miss Geoff! 💀 #NonfictionNovember

Traveling with Ghosts: A Memoir | Shannon Leone Fowler
post image

#MOvember A young woman is left grief stricken and utterly alone in Thailand, when in a matter of seconds, her life is tragically altered after her fiancé has a deadly reaction to a jellyfish bite. This is Shannon‘s account of those incomprehensible days, weeks and months trying to move forward without the person you love most. #IllRemember Such a poignant memoir. #NonfictionNovember

BarbaraBB Wait. I haven‘t seen your December list.... are these the last days of your challenge already? I thought we‘d had another month.. 😳? 😘 2w
BarbaraBB Also, great lyrics. I don‘t know this song, I think. 2w
Cinfhen Yes @BarbaraBB my December cohost needed to back out and I decided to just end with Madonna. It‘s been a long time and I‘m ready to slow down 😘💕 2w

BarbaraBB I must have misinterpreted your earlier post but you are right of course 😀 And the theme and prompts are the best ones to end with! It just takes some getting used to. I haven‘t participated each day, but I have been enjoying this challenge so much!! 2w
julesG Whaaaaaaaaat???? Now I feel like I should jump in. Like @BarbaraBB I haven't posted each day, but your photochallenges brought me out of my corner to join the Litsy community in full. 2w
vivastory No more photochallenges? 😭😥😢I understand why you would want to step back, how long have you been doing them? I feel honored to have co-hosted with you 2w

Floating amongst the stars for a year, this is the story of Astronaut Scott Kelly. I have been looking forward to reading this book.

Thank you BookishFirst and Alfred A. Knopf for sending me this book. I‘m out of this world excited to read this.
Blasting off into Mr. Kelly‘s orbit; see you when I land. #nfnov #nonfictionnovember

Becoming | Michelle Obama

#AudioFolding 14 hours down and 5 more to go with Michelle. I‘m finding her very forthcoming and not always perfect ( which I admire) she‘s human dealing with a very unnatural set of circumstances. #NonfictionNovember

4thhouseontheleft This is one of my top nonfiction picks this year. 💙 her 3w
Ashley_Nicoletto This audio was one of my favorites ever. I love that she doesn‘t shy away from her faults. 3w
britt_brooke Loved this! 3w

Cinfhen I agree @Ashley_Nicoletto she‘s super quick to point out her imperfections which makes her so likeable @4thhouseontheleft @britt_brooke although I feel like I‘ve been listening to this book forever!!!! I‘m a little antsy to wrap it up 😜 3w
4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen lol I could listen to Michelle Obama all day! Although I just started She Said, and it is definitely in the running for my top NF pick this year. 3w
Cinfhen That book is high up on my wish list @4thhouseontheleft 3w
Suet624 I really liked this book. 3w

After reading The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, I was curious to learn more about the Hmong people and "The Secret War." This memoir chronicles the Yang family's escape from Laos into a refugee camp in Thailand (where the author was born) to resettlement in Minnesota. The contrast in cultures and values was stark as the parents as the family tried to make the United States home, even if it's not where the ancestors are buried. ⤵️

ReadingEnvy The pace of this memoir is at times a bit too slow for me, which was magnified as I listened to the audio. She sometimes gives too much information about consecutive days while also covering her entire life and the life of her family before she was born. Still, it is an inside view of the refugee experience that is well worth the read.
This is the 10th memoir I've read during #nonfictionnovember and it also counts for my 2019 Asian reading project
