I felt there could have been more analysis on the relationship between Conan Doyle and Koch since it was a moment that had a huge impact on both of their lives, but overall I‘m a sucker for anything about TB and this rang all my bells.
In reference to Fan Fiction this is the stance Goetz took. He could have written about anything else, like how pervasive the love for Sherlock Holmes is, but no, he went with being a dick about people on the internet. Maybe it‘s a try at being funny; either way I think it‘s a throwaway moment that could have lead to analysis rather than whatever aside he was trying to do.
I love this quote about science and scientific progress.
As a book on the flawed people who discovered germ theory, this is excellent. However, I thought that the blurb made it sound like Koch & Conan Doyle had a fight about Koch's TB cure. Less than 5 pages were dedicated to ACD talking about how he felt Koch was wrong, & it never really says why he thought that. The ACD parts felt shoehorned in to me. It was a great Koch biography though!
I made a horrible mistake in thinking that I could "quickly" read this while getting ready to move house. I am loving it so far but may have to return it to the library before I am finished. ?
