On my way into work this morning, I spotted this truck as they waited to turn into the sub! I believe the elementary school was going to have a Scholastic Book Fair today!!! ☺️📚❤️
4 ⭐ Upon reading this book I was trying to figure out why this book was banned. It was a story of monkeys. They showed off their fingers, they played the drums and other instruments, and talked with friends. Why was this book banned? Apparently, someone thought that this book was associating African culture with monkeys. I don‘t see this because the moneys do more than play drums, they also play banjos and fiddles. I don‘t think African ⬇
I miss this type of art in books. Story takes a small girl showing off the many things her hands can do. They can clap, help her grandmother, pray, play piano… there‘s so many wonderful things your hands can do. It‘s nice to see it simplified like this, alongside the short sentences with each picture.

Online scholastic book fair just doesn‘t have the same thrill. 😕
Directional text (as with her other books), same lovely illustration.
An old-timey Scholastic Book Services book. Isn‘t that a cute cover? ❤️
