If I hadn't already purchased this, I might never have read another Tess Monaghan story after the last one. Which is lucky, because this was several degrees smarter.
This was political and plotty, with enough actual detecting and making things happen among all the coincidences and accidental witnesses. I actually feel good about continuing on with the series now even if the writing is still a little self-conscious and uneven.
Tess Monaghan #5 I really enjoy this series and can't believe I went more than a year without continuing it. Tess, a P.I. in Baltimore, is intelligent, strong, confident, and typically doesn't put herself at risk in stupid situations. As with many series, there are a number of support characters I love as well. The narrator on this one was new, but by the end I found I enjoyed her as well. Read in March. #seriescatchup
Brunch listening to a brilliant talk by Laura Lippman
I had intended to start The Trespasser, but my brain decided this was going to be the one I started tonight. It's my first Laura Lippman, and I'm starting in the middle of the series, but I have high hopes!
After almost a week with a cold, I finally finished this. And it was great - my favorite Tess Monaghan book yet! All the seeds Lippman has planted & nurtured are bearing fruit, & it is juicy 😜. Can't wait to move on to the next one!
Summer series reading moves from London to Baltimore. #next up The Sugar House
