Journey: A Novel | James A. Michener
4 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
One of the premier novelists of the twentieth century, James A. Michener captures a frenzied time when sane men and women risked their very lives in a forbidding Arctic land to win a dazzling and elusive prize: Yukon gold. In 1897, gold fever sweeps the world. The promise of untold riches lures thousands of dreamers from all walks of life on a perilous trek toward fortune, failureor death. Journey is an immersive account of the adventures of four English aristocrats and their Irish servant as they haul across cruel Canadian terrain toward the Klondike gold fields. Vivid and sweeping, featuring Micheners probing insights into the follies and grandeur of the human spirit, this is the kind of novel only he could write. 📘 The Blameless Dead, The Wolf and the Watchman and The Stone Sky
📘 The first two above because they are both ARC that come out in March.
📘 Journey and Space by Michener are the most recent but Jane Austin, Coleridge, Wordsworth, both Shelleys and Marcus Aurelius but not as recent.

The photo on this one is so inviting! I am loving the incredible descriptions of the very difficult journey across Canada to the Yukon for the Gold Rush.

CafeMom One of these days I will get to a Michener book. Enjoy. 5y

Pickpick

This book was quite different from a typical Michener novel. It only took place during one time period and involved one generation. I was interested to learn more about the Klondike gold rush. It's funny that I wasn't more familiar with the details, considering I grew up in northern Alberta 😁

Oh, how I love a book with a map 😀 Especially when it shows where I'm from!
