Pickpick

Yeah, well, a pick I guess. But because it‘s shortlisted for the #ToB23 I had high expectations and it‘s just a very straightforward story, nothing new, unexpected or original. Enjoyable and with a message but in the end forgettable.

Ruthiella Agree. The writing was perfunctory except for when he was describing how he interpreted music. Also, there were a few ? for me; like why his mother is so cruel to him only and where is his father. A sentence could have cleared that up. 1y

rmaclean4 Agreed. 1y
BarbaraBB @Ruthiella I was wondering about those questions too. Also I was surprised about the two almost identical run-in‘s with the police. Just meh 1y
Suet624 The main reason I liked it was because he said some of the incidents happened to him. I thought he wrote those parts in a way that I could feel his distress during the events. 1y
BarbaraBB @Suet624 I only knew that happened to him after I finished the book. The epilogue touched me more than the book I am afraid 🤦🏻‍♀️ 1y
sarahbarnes I actually just returned this to the library without reading it and your review makes me feel okay about that. 1y
Cinfhen I thought this was enjoyable but definitely NOT worthy of a roosters🐔 1y
Megabooks Excellent points! 1y
CBee Checked off a prompt or two though 🙌🏻🙌🏻 1y
Hooked_on_books Well that‘s too bad. I loved this one, but went in with no expectations and that can make all the difference. 1y
Librarybelle This is on my to read list…I think I‘m intrigued by this one only because I play the violin 😂 1y
BarbaraBB @Librarybelle You do? Then you should, the book is a real hommage to the violin! 1y
batsy Yes, it was a bit generic in the sense of me having read one too many mysteries 😆 Also the writing didn't do much for me. But I enjoyed the energy some sections had, and the bits of humour. 1y
Librarybelle I have it on my iPad, so one of these days… 1y

Pickpick

Tongues of Sepents the 6th book in the Temeraire series tells of Laurence &Temeraire's exile in Australia.
Crucible of Gold the 7th book in the series tells of their adventures through the Incan Empire.
I throughly enjoyed both 🐉

Deifio I think I might have to reread the series, still haven't read the last two books 2y
TheAromaofBooks I really want to read this series, and I really want to love it so I can justify owning the fabulous new covers being released this year 😂 2y

Jensol77 I will always remember The Yellow Wallpaper. I read it in a fem kit class in college. I loved discerning it in class. My eyes were opened to something I‘d never experienced. 2y

I just stumbled across this graphic memoir while browsing at the library. The bright #yellow cover isn't the only thing about it that caught my attention. In addition to being intrigued by blurbs from Malcolm Gladwell & Nicole Krauss, I was also interested in the imaginative take on the subjects. #GratefulHarvest @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Eggs Looks good 💛💛 2y
Cortg I just read an article today that Marjane Satrapi (author of Persepolis)is working on a film of this book. I‘ll have to read this one! https://bookriot.com/what-happened-to-some-well-known-authors/ 2y
vivastory @Cortg I had no idea! Now I'm even more excited to read it! 2y

LeahBergen Oh, cool! 2y
Cortg @vivastory I just put a library hold on it! 2y
Bookzombie @Cortg If you have Amazon Prime, the movie is available on there. I haven‘t got to it yet. I also stacked this book. 🙂 2y
BookBosomed1 I received this as a gift last year. It‘s a beautiful book. 2y
Vansa This is an absolutely stunning book, it's both a work of art and beautifully written. My husband and I exchanged books, along with rings,at our engagement ( because we met at a literature pub quiz), and this was the book he gave me, so it has additional emotional resonance for me😀The movie...isn't too good, really. 2y
Cortg @Bookzombie Thanks! I rarely watch TV/movies so I had no idea. I do have Amazon Prime, I‘ll check it out after I read the book ❤️ 2y
vivastory @Vansa That's a wonderful story about how you & your husband met! I'll manage my expectations with the movie, but am definitely looking forward to it as I love Satrapi 2y
vivastory @Bookzombie Thanks for the heads up! 2y
vivastory @BookBosomed1 I love all of the comments on this thread about receiving this as a 🎁📚 2y
