Well, this was fun! Professor Peter Shandy is down to earth (literally as a botanist 😆) and clever. Set in Maine, Peter is visiting a small town to collect lupine seeds from mysteriously fabulous specimens. While supping at his hotel, the diner at the next table drops face first into the chicken pot pie. Charlotte Macleod has a terrific way with words and a great sense of humor. I will definitely be seeking out more of these!

Librarybelle I think I have a couple of her books but am not sure if they are part of that series. Sound fun!! 3w
mabell @Librarybelle I think have a couple of paperbacks too, but I‘m not sure what they are either. I had to put some in basement storage due to space constraints, so finding them may be an issue 😆 3w
Librarybelle 😂 3w
CaramelLunacy I read a bunch of her Sarah Kelling / Max Bittersohn novels when I was a kid and really liked them. I'll have to see if they're still floating around here somewhere 3w
mabell @CaramelLunacy I‘ll have to try one of those next! 3w

“Peter was wondering why in tunket he‘d thought a fireside chat with this old ghoul would be preferable sitting alone in a cold, lonesome upstairs bedroom.” —Why don‘t authors write like this anymore!? 😂
Definition of tunket: HELL —used interjectionally to express curiosity, puzzlement, or exasperation.

slategreyskies I was just going to have to look up that word, but you did it for me! Thanks! :) 2y

Learned a new word tonight! 😀. “This had been too halcyon a day to clutter up the memory of it with some backwoods bully‘s melodramatic bellowings.” Here‘s the definition according to Merriam-Webster: halcyon—characterized by happiness, great success, and prosperity : GOLDEN —often used to describe an idyllic time in the past that is remembered as better than today.
