Shortly after finishing Schillers “Wilhelm Tell“, #NetgalleyDE informed me about the new book by Joachim B. Schmidt, coming in spring 2022: a retelling of Wilhelm Tell.
Did I think twice? No. Did I immediately apply for the ARC? Yes.
Did I like the book? No.
I loved it.
This is a darker, more realistic version of who Tell could've been. What could've happened back then. Here Tell is no hero. But he's a man. A man we ⬇

And as known from Schmidt the landscape's important, too. It's not just there to be nice and Switzerland-y. It's a character. Just as important as Tell. Because it's the landscape that shaped him. Him and all the others.
