The sharp-witted Cassia quickly finds him a post as a bodyguard, escorting a retired senator to Ostia. The trip soon turns deadly, as Leonidas and Cassia finds themselves squarely in the middle of intrigue that reaches from the slums of the Subura to the Palatine Hill and the emperor Nero himself.

First in series. The writing seemed a little simplistic, but overall it was an OK read. 3.75/5⭐️

Pickpick

Leonidas, a gladiator who has recently earned his freedom, is hired as a bodyguard by a senator transporting gold to pay for a precious cargo. Somebody wants the senator dead, preferably with Leonidas getting the blame. But who and why? And how is the murder of a brothel madam connected?

Quite apart from the main mystery, the mystery of Leonidas and Cassia's benefactor is obviously going to play out over what promises to be an intriguing series.
