Mozart's Sister | Nancy Moser
2 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
Maria Mozart's nickname is Nannerl and her early days seem to be the stuff of fairy tales. But behind the glamour lurks dark difficulties. Their father, Leopold, is driven by a desire to bring his son's genius to the attention of the world. But what about Nannerl? Is she not just as talented? In a world where women's choices are limited, what hope does she have of ever realizing her own dreams?

Mehso-so

I think this was meant to be affirming and encourage people to make the best of the lives they have chosen, but this ended up being terribly sad to me.

Nannerl Mozart was very talented at music, but was increasingly pushed aside in favor of her prodigy younger brother. After a Grand Tour, she is left in Salzburg while her family devotes all its energy to her spendthrift, selfish brother. And then her eventual marriage...just ouch
