I have mixed feelings about this book. It was character-driven, mostly slow-paced, the suspense was very different from what I imagined it might be. It has a very melancholy feel; it reminded me of the short story “The Gift of the Magi” when I turned the last page. I think maybe it was the right book at the wrong time for me.
A perfect Hitchcockian nightmare (tho Fritz Lang directed the adaptation), set in the darkest days of the Blitz & written while the bombs were still falling. Dunno how he did it. I can't even write when the kids are yelling in the next room.#2015top5
