The Ministry Of Fear
The Ministry Of Fear | Graham Greene
For Arthur Rowe the charity fte was a trip back to childhood, to innocence, a welcome chance to escape the terror of the Blitz, to forget twenty years of his past and a murder. Then he guesses the weight of the cake, and from that moment on he's a hunted man, the target of shadowy killers, on the run and struggling to remember and to find the truth.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was character-driven, mostly slow-paced, the suspense was very different from what I imagined it might be. It has a very melancholy feel; it reminded me of the short story “The Gift of the Magi” when I turned the last page. I think maybe it was the right book at the wrong time for me.

A perfect Hitchcockian nightmare (tho Fritz Lang directed the adaptation), set in the darkest days of the Blitz & written while the bombs were still falling. Dunno how he did it. I can't even write when the kids are yelling in the next room.#2015top5
