The 1st tale in SHORT STORIES: 5 DECADES is "The 80-Yard Run," a masterpiece about the tragedy of living an unexamined life. And yet there are works just as good throughout this beast of a book. He lost nothing off his fastball in 50 years! #2015top5

Kensalikof "The Girls in Their Summer Dresses" is also one of his best. 8y

When Boston played Cleveland in Fenway, I thought it would be great to get a chant started: "your river caught on fire." That's harder to get going than The Wave though, and after SLICED BREAD, I don't have the heart to taunt Cleveland. #2015top5

Some of the best historical fiction ever written. Aubrey-Maturin may be even more fun to read about than Holmes-Watson. I've been reading two a year and am now exactly halfway through the series. #2015top5

KariWolfe Can't imagine anything more fun than Holmes-Watson -- might have to give this a shot 😊 9y

Using the inexplicable death of a teenage girl as her leaping off point, Ng shows the reader how the individual threads of half a dozen disparate storylines may be braided together to make a hangman's noose. #2015top5

BookNotes One of those books that stuck with me for awhile after I finished it. 9y

The Ministry Of Fear | Graham Greene

A perfect Hitchcockian nightmare (tho Fritz Lang directed the adaptation), set in the darkest days of the Blitz & written while the bombs were still falling. Dunno how he did it. I can't even write when the kids are yelling in the next room.#2015top5

sleuthsandspies One of Greene's best! 9y
