I used the video where Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen read their version of BGG so that I could take a break. But I love reading the story. It's so fun to read trip trap trip trap trip trap and modify your voice for each goat. I read the Galdone version to the younger students. I'm always amazed by how many students come to elementary school never having read some 398.2s. Nominated for the 2024 #WCCPBA

Tamra My favorite as a toddler! I had the edition on the left. 😍 My grandpa read it ad nauseam to me. 13mo
mandarchy @Tamra you will love the new version, it's slightly more "mature". Menu items fly over the kid's heads. 13mo
Tamra @mandarchy how fun & imaginative! 13mo
Aimeesue That is such a great video! I rewatch it once in a while because it makes me smile 😊 13mo
mandarchy @Aimeesue I just love them both! 13mo

As expected from this brilliant duo—Barnett & Klassen—this picture book retelling is hilariously clever. It follows the traditional pattern, with surprises. The convention of the troll‘s poetic manner of speech has him fretting over what rhymes with strudel. The trick played on him by the first 2 goats becomes, in the troll‘s mind, his own doing. Goat #3 is astonishingly huge. There‘s another big, bigger, biggest towards the end. Etc. Kidlit fun!

Chelsea.Poole Love these two together! 2y
Lindy @Chelsea.Poole Yes, they seem to amp up each other‘s sly playfulness. 😊 2y

“I love goat! Let me count the ways.”

I love authors who sneak in some exposure to Elizabeth Barrett Browning to preschoolers.

I should have spent more time getting a better #underthedustcover image. I love reading folktales to my students and this tale is probably one that really holds their attention whether it's by Barnett/Klassen or Galdone. The kids love the clip clop - I'm going to eat you up vocalizations that seem to mesmerize them. This version is especially funny, something I expected since I follow them on Instagram. 🐐 🐐 🐐 🐐 🐐

mandarchy Just look at how big that goat is! The kids were enthralled and the element of surprise when they met the biggest goat was tangible. 2y
