FOR FANS OF ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE, A LUSH, SWEEPING LOVE STORY ABOUT A HINDU PERFUMER AND A MUSLIM CALLIGRAPHER, SET AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF PARTITION Monumental...A far-reaching love story. NPR (A Best Book of the Year) Mesmerizing. Publishers Weekly (starred review) Exquisite. Library Journal (starred review) Majestic. Booklist (starred review) On a January morning in 1938, Samir Vij first locks eyes with Firdaus Khan through the rows of perfume bottles in his familys ittar shop in Lahore. Over the years that follow, the perfumers apprentice and calligraphers apprentice fall in love with their ancient crafts and with each other, dreaming of the life they will one day share. But as the struggle for Indian independence gathers force, their beloved city is ravaged by Partition. Suddenly, they find themselves on opposite sides: Samir, a Hindu, becomes Indian and Firdaus, a Muslim, becomes Pakistani, their love now forbidden. Severed from one another, Samir and Firdaus make a series of fateful decisions that will change the course of their lives forever. As their paths spiral away from each other, they must each decide how much of the past they are willing to let go, and what it will cost them. Lush, sensuous, and deeply romantic, The Book of Everlasting Things is the story of two lovers and two nations, split apart by forces beyond their control, yet bound by love and memory. Filled with exquisite descriptions of perfume and calligraphy, spanning continents and generations, Aanchal Malhotras debut novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

#HumbleHarvest Day 6: I learned about this liquid #Gold (tuberose) through tagged book. It is now my favourite scent. Posting early because traveling once again - this time to Florida.

Eggs Excellent 👌🏼 12mo
epsitawithane @GatheringBooks wow. *same pinch* a friend of mine got me a little bottle of tuberose essence in concentrated form like last friday 12mo
GatheringBooks @epsitawithane oh wow!! Serendipity! Our Applebee‘s server yesterday asked me about my “perfume” she says she cannot help but ask what it is - because it reminds her of baby scent but not quite. It has that kind of effect really, and I am so happy to have discovered it and have a place in Dubai where I can get it easily at a discounted rate. 💕💕💕 12mo
epsitawithane @GatheringBooks That's so nice. Good for you. 👍👍👍 12mo

#AutumnPlease! Day 30: Not #Poison but Potion. Perfume oil heaven in a bottle. Became fascinated with the science and art of perfumery ever since I read tagged book which made mention of the distillation of scents across top, middle, base fragrance charts - like a symphony of smells. I got myself tuberose too (among other scents - some are based on popular branded fragrances but distilled into oils) as inspired by the tagged book. Dubai is Love.

Soscha Look into the Institute for Art & Olfaction. You can study perfumery online. Not cheap but great stuff. https://artandolfaction.com/ 12mo
Eggs Wow amazing 🤩 12mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks So cool 😎 12mo
GatheringBooks @Soscha oh wow! Very interesting. The great thing about tagged book is that a perfume scent has actually been created inspired by the story - i think it‘s a collaboration between a perfume maker and the author. Will check out the link you shared. Thank you! 💕 12mo

#IdiomInsight Day 30: I have reached the part in this chunkster of a novel where the main character has #OnceBittenTwiceShy vibes - his heart broken, his home destroyed, his entire family dead. Our #EmiratesLitFoundation book club pick for October.

Eggs Sounds like a compelling book 📚 ❤️ 13mo

#IdiomInsight Day 28: The star-crossed lovers in this novel have no choice but to #FaceTheMusic as their forbidden love raises the ire of their Hindu and Muslim family members and community. Of course, an Indian novel needs to be paired with my fave Indian food: garlic cheese naan, tandoori chicken biryani for husband, and palak with buratta. Super delicious.

Mitch Looks amazing. Love the peg holding up the naan! 😋 13mo
Eggs Beautiful food🍽️🎶🤗 13mo

#IdiomInsight Day 25: A lot of #BuryTheHatchet moments in this tome of a novel (idiomatically and literally), our #EmiratesLitFoundation book club pick for October, and it is a chunkster.
