3 posts | 4 read
Ghosts are converging on the cursed Mount Tonglu for a massive battle royale, the sole survivor of which may become a Ghost King, a being of unimaginable power. Xie Lian is sent to secretly infiltrate and try to prevent this--by destroying any ghosts strong enough to stand a chance. His heavenly powers are weakened near the cursed mountain, but he has one trump card on his side--Hua Cheng, who has survived Mount Tonglu before. As they struggle against murderous ghosts and the mountain's strange defenses, Hua Cheng's knowledge of the area may prove invaluable. But can they even begin to unravel the cursed peak's secrets?

On to Day 4 of my slog through HEAVEN OFFICIAL‘S BLESSING VOL 5. If I didn‘t have some small investment in the wider story, I‘d bail. So far it‘s spent a lot of time building to a revelation so obvious I‘ve gotta hope there‘ll be some sort of twist to it, with lengthy dips into the backstories for secondary characters I barely remember and don‘t care about. I‘m bored.

Lunch featured a Chinese fantasy and a fruit & yogurt smoothie. I thought this was the last volume of HEAVEN OFFICIAL‘S BLESSING, but the blurb at the end says the story continues (not ends) in Vol 6, so I guess there‘s at least two more to come—and it looks like my library‘s decided not to order any more of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu‘s books. Poop. I‘ll have to hope for used copies or ebook deals if they don‘t reverse that decision.

shortsarahrose If you haven‘t, you can definitely suggest to your library that they order the next volume. Most libraries are really receptive to patron requests! 2y
xicanti @shortsarahrose I‘m very aware of the purchase suggestions form, but my library seems to be one of the rare picky ones. When they do order the books I suggest, it sometimes takes as long as a year for them to even show up in the catalogue, and there‘s usually several months on top of that before they‘re actually available to borrow. 😔 I‘m glad my library exists, but I have major envy for people with fast library systems. 2y
shortsarahrose That‘s a real bummer 🙁 Sorry if my comment seemed obvious. From working in libraries, I‘ve just run into many people who don‘t know they can ask the library to purchase things. 2y
xicanti @shortsarahrose no worries! I know a lot of people aren‘t aware of all the resources available to them. 2y

This series! I inhaled all 411 pages of this latest volume and now I'm stuck waiting for book 6. I love the writing and storyline. And don't get me started on the characters. I love this series and author.
