so-so(1721) While strolling on his seaside estate, a Welsh gentleman spies "a maid of exquisite beauty and shape" standing in a cave. He discovers that the girl and her mother are exiles from France, and he determines to restore their lives and marry the maid. There's a lot of travel (to France, to Sweden, to Wales), family issues, highway robbers and missing persons. It's busy, prone to moralizing, and a little bonkers, but never nothing happening
