pan(1721) Count de Vinevil is a French nobleman who moves to Constantinople with his daughter and foster son to avoid onerous taxes. But in Turkey his daughter catches the eye of a lustful and powerful "Mahometan" who plans to abduct the girl and kill her family. It's a strange, xenophobic story with an implausible plot, unpleasant characters and a moralizing narrator. It's difficult to enjoy, even when granting license for its time.
