I‘m a summer sucker for both titles and cover art like this and requested the Libby audio on that alone. It‘s a low drama, low pick, easy-read friends‘ story and I was exactly in that kind of mood. …Funny thing though, imagine those times when listening to a friend/family member tell a long story and your left hand deftly moves to stop your right hand from rolling in that move-this-story-faster motion. Well, that was this story.

Suet624 Haha. Love that image of the times we want to move a story along. 2y

Book 1 for #14Books14Weeks The Bookshop by the Bay....They had me at Bookshop! Two best friends; one's been divorced for years, and the other one is just deciding to divorce. Their daughters; one freshly broken up and freshly out of a job, the other in a relationship that's destined to go nowhere, but working at a job she loves. One pair in Charleston, the other in Chatham- Cape Cod. All in need of a new perspective... (Cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy and a fresh start. Mix in some snobby friends, some hunky guys, and a spunky mother/grandmother along with a bookshop and coffee shop and I didn't want this book to end! 2y

When Jess‘ marriage disintegrates, she and her 30-year-old daughter decamp from Charleston to her Cape Cod childhood home for support from her mother and bff. She and her bff (who is also at a crossroads) decide to buy a local bookstore. As they work toward business success, their daughters pitch in as well. OK, this just did not work for me. First, the writing felt simplistic and just not up to par. The characters had no depth, therefore I 🔽

robinb wasn‘t invested enough. They felt like they were simply reacting to situations (my marriage derailed, I‘ll impulsively buy a bookstore, etc.) without planning ahead or making thoughtful decisions. It felt like there wasn‘t much of a storyline either…end of a marriage, returns home, new investment, new life. And all five women (mothers and daughters) end up with pretty perfect lives…somehow.
Just not for me. 2.5/5⭐️
