#OffMyShelf “Magic Realism”
I think I prefer Erdrich‘s later novels, but this was very good. It gives context and background to her debut “Love Medicine”. Set in the early 20th century and told from two perspectives: Pauline who is adrift from real family, mentally scarred and eventually mad and Nanapush, a wise and wisecracking elder who is troubled by the continued incursion on and internal collapse of Native lands and ways.

I have tomorrow off work, so I hope I can really indulge in this readathon and finish all three of these books by Labor Day. 🤞 The Erdrich and Ishiguro books are from my #14Books14Weeks stack.
Yikes! It‘s almost (US) Labor Day! I will be going to four ballgames in five days, and on the other day I hope to go to the pool before it closes. So I‘m calling it for summer reading. Altogether I read 20 books in 14 weeks, but I only read 10 on this list.
I plan to finish Emma in September with the #Pemberlittens since I initially misread the calendar.
King of Ashes is just a little intense for now. Maybe later? 🤷🏻♀️

Unfortunately, my #OwnedEdition of #14Books14Weeks did not see completion either. But I tried and did get a few books (5/14) off my TBR so still a win, right?

With one week left I can accept I‘m not going to read the 11 outstanding books in my #ARCEdition of #14Books14Weeks I did enjoy this challenge and I thank @Liz_M for hosting.
You think the Grimm fairy tales are dark and twisted. Just wait until the women of the story decide that they‘ve had enough.
13 beautiful, lyrical, and dark retellings of 13 different fairy tales. I desperately need to listen to these on audio during a dark autumn evening. All about the patriarchy‘s control of our bodies and voices, and the feminine rage unleashed to control our stories. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

I finished #14books14weeks! 🎉🎉🎉
I substituted 2 books - I replaced Audition with Small Boat, as I‘d read Audition before we even started! 🤦♀️ And I had a digital ARC of The Mobius Book that turned out to only have 3 pages 🤷♀️, so I replaced that with Gabriele as I joined in the June buddy read for that.
A real mix of books - some that I loved and a few that were not so good!
Thanks @Liz_M for hosting such a fun challenge!
The porch is drying off from heavy rain, so inside this morning for #coffeeandbooks. #14books14weeks
