Pickpick

Frank is summoned by the alcoholic father he has met only a few times in his 16 years, and who managed to disappoint him every time. He learns that his father is dying and wants Frank to take him to his final resting place. During their days together Frank learns who his father is and gains an understanding of his own life. It seemed like a simple, straightforward story until I grasped the torrent of the emotions pouring out of me. Loved it.

A little check in for my #14Books14Weeks Challenge #ARCEdition

I‘ve only read one book but I have Unforgiven on deck and maybe my randomized will pick more of these in July.

Mehso-so

Parts of this story were great, especially the early portion as the regiment settled into Qazal. It started to unravel near the middle where suddenly there was a forbidden attraction building(ish). From there, it got muddy. I still liked elements of the book, but it was a bit of a slog to finish.

The writing is great. The story was meh. I could see the humor in the programming reduncies, but it just didn't capture my interest. It got very repetitive very fast. Honestly, it kept putting me to sleep, so I gave up on forcing it.

I just loved this book. Ostensibly it‘s a murder mystery told by means of literary pastiche (a cosy mystery complete with secret passages, plenty of suspects & a quirky detective, a dark academia background excursion & an auto fiction conclusion) but at heart it‘s a political asking (expressly) why the proponents of the Thatcher/Reagan era policies which have created our current society do not like that society. ⬇️

CarolynM ⬆️ It is full of word games, literary references and discussions of the sitcom Friends. It‘s also very funny. Book number 6 for #14books14weeks @liz_m 1d

Low pick, kind of disappointed. I love the sarcastic banter & back/forth between her 2 main characters (I loved Funny Story & Book Lovers). In this case Alice & Hayden but they are competing to write Margaret‘s life story. It had Taylor Jenkins Reid vibes to me. I look forward to Emily Henry‘s summer books…romance fun, great to read at the beach. This was more about complicated family relationships.

A group of short stories. I love this series and the characters so this was enjoyable. That being said, I would much rather have had a full, complete story to continue the series.

This is my June #BookSpin book, a #Roll100 book & from my #14Books14Weeks list.
