The Passion of the Purple Plumeria: A Pink Carnation Novel | Lauren Willig
6 posts | 20 read | 13 to read
NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED!Lauren Willigs Pink Carnation novels have been hailed as sheer fun* and charming.** Now she takes readers on an adventure filled with hidden treasure and a devilishly handsome English colonel....Colonel William Reid has returned home from India to retire near his children, who are safely stowed at an academy in Bath. Upon his return to the Isles, however, he finds that one of his daughters has vanished, along with one of her classmates.Because she served as second-in-command to the Pink Carnation, one of Englands most intrepid spies, it would be impossible for Gwendolyn Meadows to give up the intrigue of Paris for a quiet life in the English countrysideespecially when shes just overheard news of an alliance forming between Napoleon and an Ottoman Sultan. But, when the Pink Carnations little sister goes missing from her English boarding school, Gwen reluctantly returns home to investigate the girls disappearance.Thrown together by circumstance, Gwen and William must cooperate to track down the young ladies before others with nefarious intent get their hands on them. But Gwens partnership with quick-tongued, roguish William may prove to be even more of an adventure for her than finding the lost girls.READERS GUIDE INCLUDED*New York Times Bestselling Author Christina Dodd**Kirkus Reviews

I enjoyed this book much more than I anticipated. I didn't like the heroine in previous books but this gave us a deeper look at her character. As usual, these books are witty, adventurous and fun.

In a bid to finish my many unfinished series this year, I will be starting this one next. I only have 3 books left in this series 😢. #historicalfiction

annahenke Love this series! 6y
robinb I read the Pink Carnation but don‘t think I realized it was the beginning of a series! 🤣 6y
tracy.anne8 @annahenke I kept putting off the last 3 books because I don't want it to end! @robinb 😅 I feel like those are the best surprises! I love series! 6y

robinb @tracy_anne8 are they all interconnected? Same characters? Plot line? 6y
tracy.anne8 @robinb They are and they aren't. Each book is about different characters during the Napoleonic Wars but you still see characters from other books. Sometimes the plot lines cross over from other books but they are all intertwined. The modern storyline follows the storyteller from the 1st book. There are 12 books total. 6y
robinb @tracy_anne8 OK, thanks a bunch! 6y
tracy.anne8 @robinb You're welcome😊. It's a fun series! 6y
robinb @tracy_anne8 I might have to continue with it! It‘s been awhile since I read the first so probably need to do a re-read first. 👍 6y

Loads of fun! I adored Miss Gwen and her lethal parasol. 😊

MeganB I love this series so much! Must remember to finish the last two... 8y
Dimack17 I have a whole shelf dedicated to these books. Even as a 24 year old it was fun to read about an older woman finding her happy ending. 8y

moranadatter @MeganB Me too. This is the last one I read. I still need to read about Sally and Jane. 8y
MeganB @kind artist I can't wait for Jane's book! Even after 10 books she's such a mystery 8y
kammartinez I've got the last book giving me the evil eye from my TBR, insisting that it be read right this instant XD. I'll get to t after I'm done with my current set, for sure :D. 8y
annahenke @MeganB @Dimack17 @kmdartist @kammartinez I'm going to be honest: I was quite peeved with Jane by the end of this book. But yes, she is a puzzle that must be solved! 8y
kammartinez You have every right to be peeved with Jane after this; I certainly was. But I also kind of think it's about time that we saw Jane isn't as perfect as we think she is. 8y
MeganB Oh no! @ahenke I was hoping for awesome spy goodness!! 8y
annahenke @MeganB sorry, I should have put a spoiler on that! Don't worry, she's not unredeemable! 8y
raelaschoenherr Yay! This book was so sweet. Excited for you to finish the series! I loved the setting for Jane's book :) 8y

It's so great to see Miss Gwen get her own story! A middle-aged heroine is always a refreshing change in romance. 👍 But in the present day timeline, I am SO over Colin and Jeremy bickering. 👎

kammartinez This one of my favorites in the whole series, primarily because Ms. Gwen gets a chance to shine :). But like you, I wasn't happy with all the sniping going on in the present-day timeline. It does come to an end though! I just wish I could remember which book the two finally call a truce in ^^;. 8y
annahenke @kammartinez it's a relief to hear there is a truce eventually! 8y
Thedrunkstrawberry I need to go back and read these. I started reading one, then realized it was in a series and never revisited it. Everyone seems to love them that has read them! 8y
