The Orc and the Manny
The Orc and the Manny: A Cozy M/M Monster Romance | Chloe Archer
1 post | 2 read
The Orc and the Manny is a (94k words) cozy small town M/M monster romance featuring a Hulkalicious silver fox orc professor who's better with books than kids, a flamboyant human manny with ALL the skills (think Nathan Lane in The Birdcage meets Mary Poppins), an age gap, a size difference, a three-headed hellhound and a feisty rescue Chihuahua, two adorable orcling twins, and copious amounts of orc...joy!

Mehso-so

This is another one of those books that is all vibes and no substance. There is no real plot, no tension, and everyone is just so perfect it's ridiculous.

There were a few things that killed it for me. In one conversation Max is told about the children's domestic abuse trauma and that Targan isn't his boss.

⬇️

PuddleJumper This apparently means he can hit on his not boss because it's not inappropriate anymore! Ignoring the two children that lost their home, lost a parent, moved in with someone they didn't know, and are dealing with all that. It's ok to disrupt this because it's not his boss. The whole thing is unbelievably inappropriate.

They start dating within 2 days of knowing each other and no one seems to find issue with this.

PuddleJumper The other is that Max is the most perfect nanny to have ever nannied. There is never any tension with the kids even though they'd been through several traumatic events. He bakes cookies, sets up a routine and that's in.

PuddleJumper It really bugs me when trauma is either used as a plot point and then dismissed or represented so shallowly. I know the point of the book is romance between the human manny (I hate that word) and his orc not-boss but if you wanted that dynamic then go about it in a different way.

I really want one of these monster safe haven small town books to be good.

Faranae “manny“ is such a giant red flag right there ☠ 10mo
PuddleJumper @Faranae I thought it would be a gimmick for the title but nope! 10mo
