The Breakup Vacation
The Breakup Vacation | Anna Gracia
1 post | 1 read | 1 to read
It’s the summer before senior year of college, and Grace is about to make the worst decision of her life in this “sexy, sun-drenched cocktail of chaotic good fun and heartfelt hilarity” (Sarah Kuhn, author of the Heroine Complex series) that captures the messiness of your early twenties, while highlighting the necessity of girlfriends at any—and every—age. How far would you go to win back an ex? If Grace is being honest, she knows her choices skate past questionable and probably into destructive. But her heart is broken and the guy who broke it—her ex Josh—keeps hinting at a reunion. So when her best friends, Tiff and Camille, suggest they take a girls trip to help her get over her heartache, Grace doesn’t hesitate to recommend Cancún. She just doesn’t mention that Josh also happens to be there. But juggling her friends, Josh, and the increasing number of lies she’s telling is a lot harder than she expected. And things only get more complicated when she clicks with a hot local guy, Daniel, who turns out to be half Taiwanese too. As the days unfold, Grace starts to think maybe she’ll get away with it. But will her past decisions and her need for closure come back to ruin the relationships that matter most to her? “Full of true friendship, deep self-discovery, and all the swoons,” (Courtney Kae, author of In the Event of Love), The Breakup Vacation captures the hilarious chaos of being twenty-one, when love is still new, when adulthood feels so close and yet so far away, and when friends are everything.

I‘ll be honest— the author‘s bio set the stage for me to enjoy this as I, too, share a love of Jessica Wakefield‘s exploits! And this has a definite SVU vibe— minus the identical twins but plus a more modern air and much more diversity. It‘s a light rom-com read that is fun. And while main character Grace can be amazingly blind to her friends‘ good intentions, I think that readers will enjoy being reminded of just how annoying infatuation is!

monalyisha In 5th grade, my class had a competition to see who could read the most. I reported my reading to my teacher, noting that I‘d read an SVU book. He saw the page count and how long it‘d taken me and told me that he thought I was LYING! Gosh, he was the worst teacher ever. 2mo
TorieStorieS @monalyisha That is the worst teacher ever!! I had a similar experience reporting pages on one of the Sweet Valley High Saga books in 5th grade— did you also go to elementary school in Illinois?? 🤣 2mo
monalyisha Ha! What a wacky (and sad) coincidence! For the record, I did not. Worcester, MA. 😉 2mo
TorieStorieS @monalyisha That is a sad & strange coincidence! My teacher was called Mr. Grimm— maybe he had some Worcester teacher friends despite being from the Chicago suburbs! 😬 2mo
