The Jellyfish
The Jellyfish | Boum
1 post | 1 read
Odette is a hip, young twenty-something with her own place, a steady job at a local bookstore, an adorable pet rabbit, and a burgeoning crush on a cute girl in the neighborhood. But Odette is haunted by something only she can see... A jellyfish. A jellyfish that floats in her eye, blocking her vision. It's a seemingly minor annoyance... Until one day there are TWO jellyfish. Showcasing stunning and inventive artwork by Boum (Boumeries), The Jellyfish is a tour-de-force of graphic storytelling, a powerful, occasionally terrifying story of facing the thing that we fear the most, and finding a light to guide us through the darkness.

Found this on the new books shelf at the library today and it made a perfect evening read. Odette works at a bookstore, has a place of her own, and takes care of her pet rabbit. At the start of the book, an eye doctor confirms that she has a “jellyfish” in her eye. Odette adapts to the change and lives her life, continuing to work and starting a relationship with a customer at the store. And then one day she sees more than one jellyfish. ⬇️

psalva The problem is worse than she thought. Odette is losing vision. I found the art in this volume to be stellar. There‘s so much detail in the drawing. As the book progresses and there are more and more jellyfish, more of the page is obscured to mirror Odette‘s vision loss. This is hard for her to accept but, in the end, Odette realizes she doesn‘t have to go through this alone. I‘m so glad I picked this up because I found it stunning! (edited) 4w
