So I didn‘t know this was going to happen this year, but I‘ve slowly been reading my way through all of Bourdain‘s books. Some I hadn‘t read — like his graphic novels, which I just thought were okay — and others I‘ve read in new ways like this annotated version of KC that I really enjoyed. All I have left now is Les Halles CB, Typhoid Mary, and Bone in the Throat. Gone Bamboo I read on audio, and the format didn‘t work for me, so ⬇️

Megabooks @Scochrane26 yeah, if I‘m counting correct it‘s 14, including the GNs, cookbooks, etc. There‘s so much, and a lot of it is quite different, but there‘s an interview with him in the back of the annotated KC where his editor talks about how distinct his voice is, and it‘s true and that‘s the one same thing about all of them. He had a secret Reddit account he used for BJJ posts, and he couldn‘t hide it well because he used that same voice. 3mo

Megabooks @Scochrane26 I‘d read his early nonfiction when they came out (KC, A Cook‘s Tour, Medium Raw, Nasty Bits, Typhoid Mary), but that‘s as far as I‘d gone until this year. I watched the early seasons of No Reservations faithfully, but lost regular watching when I dropped cable. I‘ve gone through and watched more NR this year and some Parts Unknown. It‘s been nice. I seem to always have an author or two I deep dive each year, and he‘s been a good one! (edited) 3mo

Flaneurette Nice! I've been thinking about and slowly acquiring Louise Erdrich to attempt a deep dive next year/ not sure yet. I was always aware of AB but didn't properly appreciate him until after he was gone 😞 3mo

Megabooks @Flaneurette Yes! I'd love to do her backlist, too, but it's very intimidating. She's such a prolific author! Yeah, I hadn't been as tuned into stuff the last few years of his life. It was hard to watch (what I could) of the last couple of seasons of Parts Unknown because he looked so miserable. I've lost four friends to suicide, and I really empathized with his friends and family. 3mo
