I have read quite a few books concerning WWII, but this one was totally different. It's a biography/historical book on Gallagher's mom's family.
Gallagher wrote in a way that transported me to her mom's shoes as a young lady in Estonia. I felt as though I was experiencing everything she did as the USSR and then Germany occupied Estonia. In fact after WWII, the USSR occupied Estonia for 50 more years. ⬇️

This book broke me. I felt sadness, grief, scared, terrified, and utterly drained by the end of the book. I experienced all the things the people Gallagher talked about. The last few chapters were so hard to read. It amazes me, everytime I read about WWII, of the evil of people.
I recommend this book to everyone! Just make sure when you read it, you read it in a place that makes you feel safe.
Thanks to Booksiern for the E-book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
