Three Came Home | Agnes Newton Keith
When Borneo was taken over by the Japanese the Keiths were there. Many of Mrs. Keith's readers suspected this, and her publishers received hundreds of anxious letters inquiring about her safety - so many in fact that the Atlantic felt called upon to print, in May 1943, the card, just received, which she had written in January 1942. It was written on the prisoners' form, sending word that she and Harry and George were interend by the Imperial Japanese Army. (They were actually treated as prisoners of war, not as internees.).
