Miss Landon and Aubranael | Charlotte E English
4 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
Tilby, Lincolnshire, 1811. Miss Sophia Landon is the daughter of an impoverished clergyman. Her father's health is failing fast, but who wants to marry a woman without birth, beauty or wealth? Her prospects are limited indeed - until her friendship with the town's fae denizens earns her passage to the otherworldly realm of Aylfenhame. Could her fate truly lie beyond the shores of England? There she meets Aubranael, a young man with a warm heart and a ruined face. In Sophy he sees the answer to his loneliness, but how can a disfigured Ayliri hope to win her heart? When a mysterious witch offers him the temporary gift of beauty, he eagerly accepts: and so begins an adventure that could change his life, and Sophy's, forever.

Tea & scone for lunch. I had lots of reading time this morning thanks to some updates, and I‘m only two chapters from the end of the book! It‘s still charming, and I‘m pleased to see English deal with the squick factor inherent in magical disguises for romantic purposes. I DO wish she paid more attention to the implications of how Aubranael‘s hotness glamour transforms his skin from dark brown to (presumably) white, though. #easterextravaganza

I‘m gonna read a chunk of my book while I drink this tea and eat these strawberries. Then I‘m gonna tuck up in bed and read some more, because it‘s still too bloody cold here and my soul is weary.

MISS LANDON AND AUBRANAEL is charming so far, albeit with the potential for some major squick down the line. (The hero has disguised himself to get to know the heroine better, and it makes sense that he‘d think it was necessary but STILL.)

Chrissyreadit Ahhh. You just expressed it- I could not understand the type of exhaustion I‘m feeling but my soul is weary describes it perfectly. Hope you find rest and rejuvenation. 🧡 5y

Apparently this is my month for books with terrible Litsy ratings. I‘ve switched from THE SILENCE OF THE SEA (33%) to MISS LANDON & AUBRANAEL (17%) for #easterextravaganza. The framing story with the troll is too cutesy for my tastes, but the core seems to have a different feel. Fingers crossed.

Supper is spicy egg drop soup. It‘s cold here. It randomly snowed a bunch. I need hot food.

Andrew65 Hope you enjoy the book and supper. 5y
xicanti @Andrew65 the first 20% was good. I think it‘s gonna stick. 5y

Mehso-so

Fantasy elements were fun and I really empathized with the main characters. I also enjoyed the slew of side kicks. Because it's a series a few details weren't quite wrapped up in the end. My biggest disappointment was that this was 15% romance, 10% Austen-esque drama, 75% fantasy. Wanted more love and interactions between Sophy and Aubranel. Also I feel like the possible immortality of Fae and the impacts on the HEA wasn't addressed.
