Warts ‘n‘ all account of drummer Bill‘s life with the Dead. Not as good as Phil Lesh‘s biog or as funny as Rock Scully‘s memoirs (the story about Moon and Garcia in the hotel room had me in stitches) but still a worthy addition to the Dead‘s literary canon. For the life of me, though, I cannot understand how or why a high-end hardback can be printed on such poor quality paper. Wafer-thin and nasty. Unlike the Soufflé.

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm What‘s the yummy-looking treat in the bowls? 🤤 4y
Mistermandolin Chocolate Soufflé. My go-to snack when enjoying all things Dead. 4y

Dead stack

AmyG And I thought I was the only deadhead on this site. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ 4y
Mistermandolin @AmyG Well, I guess that makes two of us! Now we‘ve found each other, I feel it‘s only right to ask: favourite year? Favourite show? Favourite Dark Star? 4y
Chrissyreadit You and @AmyG just cracked me up 🤣 4y

AmyG Ha! Favorite year ‘77. Favorite show 5/22/77 Pembroke Pines, FL because it has “everything” and imho the best Lazy Lightening>Supplication ever played. No favorite Dark Star. Your turn! And you need to read Phil‘s book! (edited) 4y
AmyG @Chrissyreadit Ha....you have NO idea. 🤣 4y
Mistermandolin @AmyG OK! Favourite year ‘77. Favourite show 5/28/77 Hartford, because it has everything and Jerry is on fire throughout. Guitar break on Brown Eyed Woman to die for. Favourite Dark Star - and I believe I am alone in this - 5/7/72 Bickershaw, England. I‘ve read Phil‘s book but forgot to put it in the stack! Loved it! 4y
AmyG My friend went to U of Hartford...his favorite show, too. That whole tour 🙌🏻. I will listen to that ‘72 show. Have you ever heard of the relisten app? It has most if not all of the live dead shows by years. Then by tapers and soundboards. I learned this from my deadhead painter recently. Ha...it was worth hiring him for the info. (edited) 4y
Mistermandolin @AmyG Thanks for the tip re: the Relisten app. I just found it recently. Pretty much endlessly brilliant. I‘ve just been trying to work out what would be a good place for Chrissyreadit to start her Dead odyssey but I can‘t do it. What do you reckon? I‘m inclining towards the Long Strange Trip compilation that went with the documentary a couple of years back. The Amazon one. Compilations not ideal, though, for obvious reasons. (edited) 4y
AmyG I am not sure Chrissy would be into the Dead, but there is always hope. 🤣 I did love the book, though. 4y
