The Report Card | Andrew Clements

Nora Rose Rowley is a genius, but don't tell anyone. Nora's managed to make it to the fifth grade without anyone figuring out that she's not just an ordinary kid, and she wants to keep it that way. But then Nora gets fed up with the importance everyone attaches to test scores and grades, and she purposely brings home a terrible report card just to prove a point. Suddenly the attention she's successfully avoided all her life is focused on her, and her secret is out. And that's when things start to get really complicated....

Pickpick

I recently SR “THE REPORT CARD” a F novel written by Andrew Clements, and I recommend that teaching strategy too. This book is narrated by a fifth-grade student named Nora Rowley. Nora is no ordinary student at Philbrook Elementary School, she is a genius(this diagnosis is discovered later on). This young lady decides to take a stance against grades and how they are affecting her fellow peers.

AJones Because she knows this stigma on grades does not define who you truly are. So, Nora and Stephen create a secret plan to get everyone‘s attention, but will it work? http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/book-report-alter... This RWT lesson is an alternative book report for students. It gives each student an opportunity to express their findings in a mini-book. 7y
AJones I also believe this lesson can be adapted for any age. UDL 7.1 optimize individual choice and autonomy. EL 4 link lesson topic to student‘s prior knowledge. Many students have had a grade or two that made them feel upset or unintelligent. #ucflae3414f17 7y
DrSpalding Creating a mini book is a wonderful extension for this particular title. Clements is an excellent offer and worthy of literature circle use in your middle to intermediate grade classrooms. 7y
cheyennewilliams I think you're correct, this book can be used for any age. Students put too much pressure on themselves to be perfect in school. It is important to show them that it is ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them and try harder next time. This is a great book that can really set the tone for your expectations in your classroom. 7y
