A modern-day adventure and classic in the making, in the vein of The Call of the Wild, Hatchet, and The Cay, by award-winning author Iain Lawrence. Less than forty-eight hours after twelve-year-old Chris sets off on a sailing trip down the Alaskan coast with his uncle, their boat sinks. The only survivors are Chris and a boy named Frank, who hates Chris immediately. Chris and Frank have no radio, no flares, no food. Suddenly, theyve got to forage, fish, and scavenge the shore for supplies. Chris likes the company of a curious, friendly raven more than he likes the prickly Frank. But the boys have to get along if they want to survive. Because as the days get colder and the salmon migration ends, survival will take more than sheer force of will. Eventually, in the wilderness of Alaska, the boys discover an improbable bondand the compassion that might truly be the path to rescue. From the Hardcover edition.

Pickpick

The book focuses more on the bond between the boys, as opposed to the survival aspect, which is something I personally prefer. Watching them work together to survive was heart warming and wholesome, though not realistic, if that‘s your thing.

Two boys who don't get along are shipwrecked and must work together to survive in the Alaska wilderness. This #audiobook, performed with youthful animation by Christopher Gebauer, is aimed at readers from about age 7-12. It's 8 hours long and would be good for a family road trip.

"I don't read endings. It's more real that way."

Louise What great cover art! Thought-provoking quote too! 7y
Lindy @Louise I like the cover too. It suits the story, which alternates suspenseful moments with a bit of introspection. 7y

Read with my son. For me, too many plot elements and too much tension, but it's a readable middle grade survival story with a vivid setting.
