They say it'll change your life. For five people, Smiler's Fair will change everything. In a land where unimaginable horror lurks in the shadows, where the very sun and moon are at war, five people - Nethmi, the orphaned daughter of a murdered nobleman, who in desperation commits an act that will haunt her forever. Pickpick

Interesting worldbuilding and morally ambiguous characters but mostly set up. Recommended for someone looking for an ongoing grimdark series (the 3rd is due out in September)

This first book in what I presume is a trilogy has a long setup (which is ok with me, I like worldbuilding) but I'm glad threads are starting to converge finally with a couple sets of the five main players. Sometimes with multiple POV I find myself more invested in one or two than others, but I'm actually really enjoying every view point here (there's also one or two others besides our main cast) so that definitely counts in its favor!

Haven't picked this up in dayyyys even though I was liking it (I lose all sense of urgency if I own a book instead of borrow 😬), hoping I can get back into it now! Especially with a main cast of five characters that are all in different places.

Back to this. I have no idea how this will go, I'm still only 20% in but I'm so easily drawn in whenever I pick it up

I don't want to rocket up my hopes too high but this looks awesome so far. Floating palaces pulled by mammoths, riding birds like horses, a great moving dark carnival, and in world mythology to boot. And I'm only on chapter 2!

TW though, the prologue begins with a rather grisly "C-section" (the medieval fantasy equivalent) that might be tough for some.

After much deliberation, this will be my first holiday read. I've still to decide on the rest... The library beckons!
