I first read this book in elementary school and I'd forgotten how much I loved it. Despite not being a big fan of Cinderella, I really enjoyed this re-telling in which Ella agrees to marry the prince to escape her step-mother, but then discovers he's not as charming as his name implies. I also didn't remember all of the subtle politics that Haddix slips into the story, but I appreciate those details reading it as an adult.
