First book in the “Reckless“ series by Cornelia Funke. This could fall under MF or SF due to the nature of the novels. More for grades 7 and up, but it can be a safe read for grades 5th and 6th maybe even 4th with parent approval. The UDL 4.1 regarding varying the methods for response and navigation along with EL 2 for promoting cooperation (small groups). Tinks If you ever read the “Ink Heart“ trilogy, you will definitely want to immerse yourself in the series as well. Set in a world all of its own with interesting characters of the most imaginative mind. Loved reading from beginning to end and found myself not wanting to put it down. Fearless | Cornelia Funke

I chose this author as my “Author Study“. So, I figured why not add it to my Litsy list. “Fearless“ by Cornelia funke is part of a series and the second book in that series. Although it is considered a book for grades 7 & up, I feel it is safe enough for 5th and 6th graders in the elementary level. Tinks A world where you can get lost in, from one page to the next. It's a world on the other side of a mirror that will enchant you with colorful details and have you warming up at times to even the meanest of characters. The Banshee by Eve Bunting is a captivatingly creepy tale about a boy who must overcome his fears about a long ago story that has been told from one generation to the next. It is being categorized as Irish folklore. I'll put it under either MF,SF. Ella Sarah Gets Dressed | Margaret Chodos-Irvine

This adorable picture book by Margaret Chodos-Irvine will be, in my opinion be best under RF. I see this happening to most little girls' Ella Sarah's age & maybe even many other age groups for that matter. The UDL 2.4 & 9.3 regarding promoting understanding across languages & develop self-assessment & reflection along with EL 5 for teaching technical vocabulary supporting key concept. This book was also awarded the Caldecott medal. #UCFLAE3414F19

This biographical picture book is about one of the biggest idols from my own culture, Celia Cruz. Celia Cruz was a singer from Havana, Cuba who became known for being “La Reina de la Salsa“ or the queen of Salsa. http://www.monicabrown.net/files/Tools_for_Teachers_CELIA.doc
This book would best be taught through RA using ESOL strategy 5 and EDL 2.1 to clarify the spanish language vocabulary and promote understanding.

Gandhi was a shy boy growing up and avoided people as he walked home from school every day, and yet eventually he became the face of the movement for Indian independence from British Rule through nonviolence.
