The Lorax | Dr. Seuss
post image
Pickpick

This MF book by Dr. Seuss can be used as a great RA and S. The book is about The Lorax who “speaks for trees” and confronts the Once-ler who doesn‘t care about killing the trees. #UCFLAE3414F19

AlyssaB Every summer we do a dr sues week with the kids and I always love reading this book. Our activity is to make the Lorax face! 4y
YesseniaN I love how you could introduce this book through a lot of subjects. You could be talking about the environment and then read this book to the class 4y
Jgolub13 This is the perfect book to read around Earth Day. Students can learn how important trees and plants are. 4y
Tinks Dr. Seuss is another of my favorites... As you can tell, I have lots of favorites. The Lorax is no exception. 4y

The Mitten | Jan Brett
post image
Pickpick

This TL was written and illustrated by Jan Brett. This book is about, of course, a mitten. Nicky‘s Baba makes him a mitten. He drops it outside, where several animals squeeze into the warm mitten. When a mouse‘s whiskers make a bear sneeze the animals fly out everywhere. Nicky catches his mitten and makes his Baba curious about the size it became. #UCFLAE3414F19

fabozzia This book would be great for an RA and then I found this lesson used to help teach sequencing and predicting. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/mitten-lesson-... (edited) 4y
fabozzia I would pair this book with UDL guideline 3.2 to highlight patterns and ESOL strategy 42 that relates to sequencing. (edited) 4y

Madeline | Ludwig Bemelmans
post image
Pickpick

This TL, Caldecott award winning book was written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. The book is about a young girl who lives with 11 other young girls and taken care of by Miss Clavel. One night Madeline cried and cried and needed to get her appendix out. The girls all missed her and wanted theirs out too. #UCFLAE3414F19

fabozzia I would use this book as a RA, and I found this great rhyming activity for students. http://www.readwritethink.org/parent-afterschool-resources/activities-projects/r... 4y
fabozzia I would pair this book with UDL strategy 2.1 because there is a lot of great vocabulary for students to clarify, which aligns with EL strategy 5, to teach technical vocabulary supporting key concepts. I believe this story would be one of the simpler books, in some ways, to incorporate these lessons and strategies. 4y
