I recently reread this with a new eye for analysis; what a great book! Funny, insightful, and so many hidden and not-so-hidden names, symbols, themes, etc. It‘s a great examination of indigenous lives and the tug-of-war between heritage and modern society. A great read.

Strong characters interacting in King‘s near hallucinogenic story structure, making this one of the more surreal tellings of his- something that I am coming to expect especially accompanied by humor and wit (let‘s just call it satire). King is gentle to the settler, but makes evident settler failings. Great read.

So Far, I‘m enjoying this book, but wonder what the First Nations think? I like Christopher Moore, I got some more of his books. What genre do you think they fall under?

American Indian Youth Literature Award Book

When the Coyote is having his friends over for a get-together, they unexpectedly run into a little girl that leads them on a journey. Coyote is very curious and is maybe going to get himself into some trouble.

This book is a winner of the American Indian Youth Literature Award. This is a book that includes rhyming as you read through it and portrays a great story and message. Great book and illustrations as well!

Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote by Duncan Tonatiuh was published on May 7th, 2013. This book won the Tomas Rivera Book Award and is a fictional story. In this book, a rabbit named Pancho is trying to find his father. He enlists the help of a coyote who eventually eats Pancho's food, drinks his water, and threatens to hurt him in the end. Luckily, the rabbit's father returns in time to save him.

This is a story about a young rabbit who sets out on a journey to find his father who had traveled from Mexico to the US in search of work. When he does not return, Panchito decides to go looking for him with the help of Coyote.

Classic trickster shenanigans given a modern update. Beautiful accompanying illustrations. I will always love storytelling/myths that provide creative explanations for the way the world works now, while suggesting things used to be quite different. A bit of pathos in the changes, as always.

Accompanying illustrations are gorgeous.
