This one was tough. Some of these stories resonated with me, but others felt like they were just mean-spirited.
During my hematology appointment, I had planned on reading but found it uncomfortable, so I ended up listening instead.

Get ready to grow your TBR with this one. Harrison looks at anti-Blackness and the cross section with anti-fatness. Remarkable insight and a broad range of topics. I think I might have missed some parts of the book. At 256 pages the audio book is only 3 hours. But overall it is an excellent listen with a lot to think on and understand.
I learned a ton from this book and thought the author narration in the #audiobook was excellent! (No surprise since Aubrey Gordon is a podcaster and I also happen to find her voice sexy). I did find it a bit repetitive, which I think is the nature of all of these myths and tackling a big topic like anti-fatness in the structure of the book. I'm off to read her recommendations of other fat acceptance and anti-fatphobia books!
The last chapter on stuff done to fat kids made me really angry 😡
Salt Sugar Fat is less about health than it is about how companies like Kraft and Coke use marketing to boost sales and our own human weakness against us. I was surprised by how often they blatantly lie. Surely it is illegal to make false claims, right? Well, it‘s only lying if you get caught.
I appreciate that Moss dove into the history of these companies and the people behind the scenes. It only enriched what was already an engrossing book.
Gordon covers many of the myths people believe about fat people, from laziness to how unhealthy they are, along with the prejudice they face in healthcare, the workplace, even in fashion.
I thought it was going to be more enlightening and/or empowering but was depressing to see so many ways fat people are treated differently.
Very well researched and succinct writing. Good to pick up again and did in and out of. Love her!
Book 103📚 4.1⭐️
This book hits you like a slap in the face. Awad attacks our obsession with the female form in 13 brutal but provoking chapters. Nothing sugar coated here.
Follow Beth‘s story as her relationship and weight changes with her body. Set in central Ontario, there are some pretty hilarious references.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was my first experience with Gordon, but I‘m so impressed! Here, she dispels common misconceptions with research and expertise. We must stop monitoring each others bodies. Size does not dictate someone‘s worth. We know this in our heads and hearts, but implicit bias can be a rude, sneaky bitch. No doubt, it‘s a direct correlation of how we perceive ourselves and our own worth. Why are we like this? It‘s dumb. We have to do better.
