A fantastic, brutal, epic conclusion to the trilogy. Glokta is now a forever favorite book character. I look forward to continuing in this world. This is most definitely grim dark, violent fantasy, so not necessarily for everyone. I however loved it! 5⭐️

The Blade Itself | Joe Abercrombie

So today on the blog I participated in The Nope Book Tag. One of the questions it asked was “name and antagonist that you would hate to run into.” And since I‘m reading The Blade Itself, Glokta was the first person that came to mind. Seriously, I wouldn‘t want to be in his bad side.

I‘ve heard his character evolves a little though so I‘m interested to see that. But what antagonist would you hate to run into?

We‘re finally finished with remodeling so it‘s time to get caught back up on reading. I‘m so excited to spend a cozy weekend at home with books and tea.

I‘m ready to read a chunk in The Blade Itself. I‘ve been enjoying it. I just haven‘t had the time to focus on it. But now that my house is put back together it‘s time to get to it.

Wow. Abercrombie rarely disappoints, and he‘s at the top of his form here. Fantasy with MANY fascinating, morally grey characters who consistently surprise? Oh yes. You can almost smell the gunpowder (yes, there is) and taste the blood in your mouth from that dagger someone slipped in your back. They call Abercrombie Lord Grimdark for a reason. If that‘s your jam, this book is as good as it gets. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #d100

The final book in the First Law trilogy and I'm giving myself a massive pat on the back for completing this.

This was my first ever dip into the grim dark fantasy genre. I'm always game to try anything but I'm not sure I'd rush back to read anything more from this sub genre as its not really for me.

There was a handful of characters in these books that I had an interest in and I'm glad I saw their stories through to the end.

Book two in the First Law trilogy and I was definitely into this more than I was book one but I can't say I love it, I'm interested enough to know how it all wraps.

Logan Ninefingers is still the character I'm the most into and I really liked his relationship with Ferro, I think their initial intimate scene was the most realistic I'd ever read!

I did feel a bit more interested in Glokta than I was previously.

Not as good as book 1. We‘ve got 3 main threads in book 2. The 1st features Glokta, whose adventures carry the book. The 2nd has Logan Ninefingers and co‘s quest to the edge of the world. It isn‘t half as gripping as Fitz‘s journey in Hobbs‘ Assassin‘s Quest which is longer and more languid but less forced and much more interesting. The 3rd thread, featuring the Northmen & Major West, reads like a poor YA fantasy that is predictable and dull. 7/10

Bookwomble 7/10 seems generous from your review. Was the Glotka thread so much better that it partially redeemed it? 4mo
The_Book_Ninja If it wasn‘t for Glotka, I wouldn‘t go on to read book 3. His character is so well written It‘s honestly like a different authors wrote the other threads. 4mo

I do love the characters in this series. This second book in the First Law series continues the journeys of multiple heavily flawed but yet charming characters. This is definitely is not a ploy driven story, so it took me a while to finish. However, each time I picked it up I enjoyed the characters a great deal. I look forward to book 3. 4.5⭐️
