Late post but this tag was not easy for me, trying to look for an English song that could match with the book. Then the books I was reading were not so good at that time😳
But during Yellowface, June was almost “paranoid” of who was writing what in social media, of course to later justify herself. But I thought in this song:

August review A super late reading for ##GoldenAgeCrimeClub(February)
This was an interesting reading but since I read the book so late I didn‘t participate in the book discussion. However, reading the comments now, helped me to understand better the story and the characters since you find many racial/stereotypes comments that today could be very offensive. But as one of you mentioned it‘s difficult to evaluate it with our current values/beliefs

Gissy What I liked about the book is the methodology used to discover who is the person found dead and why is not what it seemed. They found the body but then Peter use a simple maybe but a good attempt of inductive reasoning to solve the mystery. I also liked when Peter converse with the murderer those words between them that appeared that they had a simple conversation but it had another meaning, a well metalanguage process. ⬇️ 3w
Gissy I agree with many of you that Peter could be seen as caricature character with a non usual relationship with Bunter but I saw it like maybe the author wanted to give some humorous content, sometimes racial/stereotype/antisemitism but I‘m trying to understand the author perspective at that time. A person mentioned that other books are better in this series and at the end she liked this character. I will try maybe 1 or 2 more books in the series. ⬇️ 3w
Gissy Thank you @Mitch for the questions. I know I‘m very behind but the books sound so good so I will read a couple more continuing with them next year because some of them I already bought them. Slow reader🤷🏽‍♀️

I enjoyed this one. Carly went back to her hometown and rented and inaugurated a place where she establishes her restaurant. The specialty are different types of grilled cheese sandwiches 🥪 😋recipes at the end of the book👌But with only few months operating she was informed that the building new owner wants to renovate the place and she has only few months to evacuate the place⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) She met the new owner the day she was informed about the building. He is someone she knows from her past (no spoiler) One person threatened this building owner. Then, a murder is committed, someone is accused and Carly will help to resolve the mystery as expected in cozy mysteries. It was okay but entertained. I was imagining these sandwiches 🥪 in my head all the time😳😂3⭐️

I liked this story. Mrs. Creasy mysteriously disappeared during summer 1976 in England Grace and Tilly, 10 year olds girls are in the mission to find out this mystery. As the book blurb says the girls, inspired by something the vicar said, “...believed that finding God they might also find Mrs. Creasy”. I usually don‘t like stories with religious content but this story has more elements, is about this community⬇️

Gissy Their beliefs, lies, misconceptions, misjudgments about people lives or characters. Maybe the two girls sometimes behave younger for their age but they were sometimes so funny in this searching of God or who is a goat or sheep. The ending appears to be open but you know what is going to happen. It was entertaining but I don‘t think many readers will like this story. This was an old book in my physical tbr. 3.75 3w

Another August review 😲
I liked it but not as much as I expected or as much as many readers. You know by now what this book is about. So interesting to see how awful and terrible the media can be and how dark a person can be transformed to gain attention and to be “famous”...at all cost. All characters are unlikable but I think those aspects can be worst in the real world. All those part were interesting to me. But⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) But half of the book was repetitive of what June would do or would not, always in constant justification of her decisions🤦🏽‍♀️I know, is a defense mechanism but is was too much. So for me this was okay 3.5⭐️But I love my beautiful edition😍

August review😬
This book started so interesting but then it was like a chaos. James is at the airport going back home after vacation, met Michelle and strange things start to happen like they are in another dimension. Then you will see the different reaction of people at the airport. It is supposed to be something like Jurassic park but in a bad way. The book club members thought I would like it because of the psychological aspects but no😳⬇️

Gissy (Cont) It was a chaos, disorganized, confusing and not well integrated for me. Didn‘t work for me at all. Only one person liked it in the book club. Almost a 👎 category. 2⭐️

Third book and apparently last book in this trilogy (sometimes authors decide to add a new book at the last minute🤷🏽‍♀️) I love love the characters and this world. First book was amazing. However, these 2 books could be summarized in the first book. It was so repetitive like they needed to add unnecessary information just to say that there is a trilogy. Abrupt ending.3⭐️ Land for the whole trilogy3.5⭐️⬇️

Gissy (Cont) The narrator is the same for the 7 books in this world. Amazing, extraordinary work👏I really enjoyed and appreciated the interview conducted by the author with the narrator in this last audiobook.

Last book completed during this month, last book read by this author #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville A HF based of Lucrecia De‘ Medici who apparently was killed by her husband. This Lucrecia is so different to the real one and the facts are totally fictionalized. The idea comes of this rumor that she was murdered.
I didn‘t like this book as I expected. I felt it forced in term of the history. ⬇️

Gissy (Cont) I didn‘t see that character development I saw in novels read. it was more about the plot. Maybe my expectations were too high. I was waiting for something like Hamnet.

It is a difficult summer in 1976 and Gretta and Robert continue with the same routine since 39 years ago. But this time, Robert didn‘t return to his house, disappeared and the story began when Gretta, who seems to be so emotional contact her two daughters, Monica and Aoife and her son Michael Francis. Then we will know about all these characters in the splendid authors way, their relationships and the family secrets.⬇️

Gissy Another family saga with second chances, personal growth. The end was a little open as well as the what was going to happen with each character so I can understand why maybe this one is not a favorite one but it worked for me. I like character driven novels. 3.7/3.8⭐️

I‘m not the best audience for this manga but it was okay and cute, how this girl who is not supposed to have magic discover that maybe she has it. There will be adventure and risks in this journey.
I have difficulties to appreciate the art. Some traces were not well defined but I don‘t read much mangas or graphic novels. 3⭐️

After I read Hamnet and The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, I wanted to read more books by this author. Someone from Litsy recommended me this one. Maybe is not the best story but the writing style create the atmosphere to love it. This is a character driven novel with slow pace. It was fascinating to me how well she described the characters, I felt I was in their heads specifically with Elina, Ted, Lexie. The story goes from past to present⬇️

Gissy (Cont) because there is something that unite them, something from the past. Ted is experiencing difficulties to remember some events from his past. And then, you will be connecting all these dots. But so well described. Loved it! And that cover? So pretty to me, this book is so heavy with high quality pages 4/4.5⭐️

Katy‘s mother died and her world stopped. She decided to travel to Italy as she had planned but with the absence of her mother, who was supposed to go. She will discover herself in this travel.
I didn‘t expect that this novel would be a time traveling. This is a story of second chances.
I liked the atmosphere, you felt like you were there. I traveled too with the help of Google☺️But this character is so annoying⬇️

Gissy In my opinion her relationship with her mother was enmeshed (concept used in family therapy) with no boundaries in her personality.
I found that it was repetitive about how Katy felt about the lost of her mother. It is a short novel, only 253 pages and I don‘t know how many times she mentioned this situation.
I could say that is okay but I decided to put it in the category of picks because of how well the atmosphere was described. 3⭐️

I enjoyed this cozy mystery. Jane lives with her uncle and aunt in a resort and to increase the number of bookings and raise money for repairs to the property, she creates a Murder and Mayhem week. There will be prizes for those who solved the clues. But the activity turns in a real murder after a book was given as a prize by mistake since the book shouldn‘t be given away. Jane will discover many secrets around this book, about a society ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) ...about her uncle and aunt. You also have the funny scenes expected this type of genre in this case by the aunt d as bd the twins. It was fun. What will happen in the next book?

Another book full of coincidences. These 4 women retired from a secret organization called The Museum. Their mission-at the beginning was to hunting down the neo by nazis and later this vision expanded. Now, they are in danger and they want to know why, they will investigate this why and who is behind that mission.
The ending was so abrupt. 3⭐️

Unpopular opinion-I didn‘t like this one as much as I wanted. Too many coincidences in those twists, so convenient with a dramatic ending and almost happy ending😳
Love the premise but you see from the beginning that something is off🙄 3⭐️

Andrew65 I loved No Exit, but found the next one, Hairpin Bridge, wasn‘t as strong. 2mo
Gissy @Andrew65 This one has mix reviews. Some people really like it. I enjoyed some parts but it wasn‘t what I expected. Try it, you never know🤗 2mo
Andrew65 @Gissy I‘m sure I‘ll get to it at some point. 2mo
MaleficentBookDragon I don‘t care for it either. The “motivation” for the big bad was laughable to me. I couldn‘t buy it at all. And I found the book kind of boring for a thriller. 2mo

Unpopular opinion because this one has low rating but I enjoyed it. Eric is in disguised with 2 daughters, something happened in the past that they left abruptly. He needs to work and gain some money and need a place to stay for his daughters. Then, there is a well paid job offer where the catch? He has to live in a house documenting everything that he sees in the house. What happen in the house, what is the history. It has a couple of twists⬇️

5feet.of.fury I loved this one. So freakin creepy! 2mo
Gissy It is not perfect but I like this character Eric. It will turn in something paranormal that maybe that is the reason that didn‘t work for some readers. 3.5/3.8⭐️

I enjoyed it, the audiobook is great. Leigh lives alone, no friends and hasn‘t see her sister for a long time. She starts to listen noises at night, a figure trying to enter into her room and that voice. Oh, how well this part was dramatized in the audiobook. Can‘t say much but the story has a couple of twist, some I didn‘t expected, some I suspected. If you enjoyed Darcy Dark and the movie The Others, there is a high chance you will like it

Gissy The gifts were practical, things that I will use. 3.5/3.8⭐️
