The Godfather | Mario Puzo

I‘ve been listening to the audiobook of The Godfather whenever I‘ve been out walking. I know it‘s partly based on real people but I wonder if that is what the mafia was actually like? My feelings are mixed, I hate the way women are treated in the book but I guess that‘s partly due to it being written in the 60s. I‘m still finding it quite a compelling read though! If you‘ve read it I‘d be fascinated to know your thoughts!

Christine11 @anoplph0ra I‘m about 2/3 of the way through - you‘re right, it is definitely getting worse. It‘s just shocking to me how ok they all seem to be with horrific domestic violence 🙁 6y

Jess7 I liked this one — but there were parts that were super unrealistic. Sadly, this is my favorite one of hers so far. I did not like In a Dark, Dark Wood (but some did). The Lying Game was just so-so for me. But I‘m looking forward to her new one coming out this summer:

CouronneDhiver I‘ve read three of Ruth Ware‘s books... I think they all have an unreliable narrator and some unlikeable characters. If you don‘t enjoy that, she may not be for you. 6y

Christine11 I just read In A Dark Dark Wood for my Litsy mark-up postal book club group! I liked it but didn‘t love it - I thought it was well written mostly but the motivations of some characters seemed a bit silly to me! I‘m kind of on the fence as to whether to read her other books! 🤔💗 6y

vkois88 I liked it... not keen on Lo herself, but found the story involving the other characters. I kinda wish it had been written from the other point of view. THAT would have made for a crazy interesting story. The beginning of this book was drawn out, and had way more of an effect on the rest of the story than it should have. However, going on other people's comments about about an unreliable narrator... you can mark one off for a reading challenge 😉 6y
