March: Book Three | Andrew Aydin, John Lewis

Congressman Lewis shares the whole experience. Both he and Dr. King respected Brother Malcolm and the love he had for his people -- my people -- our people. Their different approaches were for the common good. Both were needed and, together, could have resulted in triumph. White Supremacy recognized the threat and infiltrated using our weak components. Hatred and greed circumvented The Movement.

Lmstraubie This trio of books was so incredibly powerful. I learned so much! 7y
Donna_sBookMinute So have I, @Lmstraubie. And I thought I "knew this stuff." Actually, I do; but so much remains to be discovered. 7y

BellaBookNook I loved this series and hope they do more about various topics in the future. 7y
andrew61 I don't read graphic novels but these 3 look incredible, not aware of them here in uk. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute 👉🏽 @BellaBookNook 👉🏽 @andrew61 -- This was my introduction to graphic novels. A great reading experience. 7y
BellaBookNook I just started the graphic novel edition of Kindred by Octavia Butler. It's good so far. I'll post a picture of it. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute 👉🏽@BelindaBookNook -- That's one I want to read too. But I haven't read the print copy. I might want to read it that way first. Not sure. I'll watch for your picture. Enjoy your read. 7y
mrsa_d I loved the representation of Malcolm X in these books. The way I learned this history in school, Malcolm was kind of a "bad guy" who was working against Dr. King. Love how these books so clearly demonstrate how there are different methods to work towards the same goal. ? 7y

This immediately brought to mind a saying my former Pastor used often: "It's a time for prayer meetin' and it's a time for bear meetin'." I had the general idea and thought it referred to when we should use common sense with faith. I didn't realize it had anything to do with race. According to folklore, the tale* is peculiar to African American churches; and the bear symbolizes the white man.

Texreader That is fascinating. Thanks for sharing. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute 👉🏽@Texreader -- I'm glad you found it to be of interest. I've googled it a few times. But this time, I actually found three versions of the tale. You're welcome; and Thanks. 7y
Texreader @Donna_sBookMinute It's so good to keep these memories alive. So much to be learned from them. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute 👉🏽@Texreader -- True from our standpoint and through the eyes of our descendants. 7y

During a not great day after a tough weekend, the only bright spot was checking the Youth Media Awards and seeing that "March: Book Three" won an amazing 4 awards! I also made time to watch the webcast archive, and what got me most was hearing the massive cheers from the attendees EVERY TIME it was announced. I couldn't stop myself from crying, even though I was at work, but at least they were happy tears! #youthmediaawards2017 #marchbookthree
