The Lost Spells | Robert Macfarlane
post image

Having a very early morning read been at it since 5.30 just wanted to share some more amazing art work in my current book The Lost Spells by Robert Macfarlane.
Reading this book real slow, devouring every poem.

I guess I just want to travel, because earlier this week I was dying to go to Kenilworth and after finishing Madhouse at the End of the Earth this morning I starting googling “Antarctic cruises“ #morningreads #FridayReads

Are there references to Russian literature that I'm just not getting because I haven't read enough? I keep feeling like I'm missing something. #morningreads

Ruthiella I read the synopsis of Uncle Vanya on Wikipedia and maybe there are parallels? Especially when he calls Sasha “The Landowner”. (edited) 2y
Sophronisba @Ruthiella Maybe so? It's been years since I've read Uncle Vanya. I definitely had the strong feeling there were allusions I just wasn't getting. 2y

This morning I was very taken with the description of a painting in Intimacies, and ended up going down a bit of a Judith Leyster rabbithole. The woman did not get credit for her work until 1893 -- after her death every single painting she'd made was attributed either to her husband or to Frans Hals. #morningreads #JusticeForJudithLeyster

BarbaraBB Yea! I‘ve been googling this too! 2y

Impressed that Alison Weir managed to cobble together a biography of a woman who left behind no letters, no will, no recorded words, and no personal possessions. #morningreads

Olga Dies Dreaming | Xochitl Gonzalez

See, my parents raised us, me and my brother, on an ‘all power to the people‘ doctrine. ‘Liberation‘ was the highest calling. So, what my mother did was . . . noble. Or at least I knew I was supposed to see it that way. And at the end of the day, she didn‘t leave us on a street corner. We were with her mother. . . I just started to feel like she was a soldier we‘d lost to a war. Which, we kind of did. #morningreads

I have all kinds of issues with this book, but I have to hand it to the author: she has nailed Evelyn's voice. The narration is pitch-perfect. #morningreads
