Onto book 2 while I travel. Tackling #NewberyChallenge.

Working on this one tonight for #NewberyChallenge. I know I‘ve read it, but I just haven‘t documented it anywhere so it doesn‘t count to me.

Animals around an abandoned country house excited because rumor of a new family moving in. Could help with food supply because food has been scarce. Will have to decide if these are good folks or bad folks for animals.

I think my younger students would really enjoy this as a read aloud. #NewberyChallenge

Short stories that tell about how certain things came to be. Explanations as to how fireworks created or how tea was discovered. Interesting. Good for read aloud when studying Asia or myths. #NewberyChallenge

Preteen Lucky lives in Hard Pan (population 23) with her guardian, Bridgette, and her dog, HMS Beagle. Her mom died 2 years ago and Bridgette, who is from France, came to the U.S. to care for Lucky. (How she came to be guardian is a little convoluted so I'll let Lucky explain it) Lucky is worried that Bridgette is planning to go back to France and leave her with a foster family. Lucky takes her future into her own hands. #NewberyChallenge

Mary Alice remembers being 15 and sent to live with her grandmother in the country. Her dad is out of work and her Grandma Dowdell has room. Prior to this Mary Alice has only ever visited with her brother for summer visits. Now it's a whole year and grandma is a character. From swiping food from others' land to tricking neighborhood tricksters to helping some that no other people in town will help, Grandma's on top of everything. #NewberyChallenge

Story of Louisa May Alcott. Tells about her life. She sounds a little too good to be true. It was interesting. Her life, but it's made to sound easier than it probably was. Really, it seems, if you want to get a true picture of the lady then you should read her books, especially Little Women. According to the author of this, Louisa put everyone important to her in them. #NewberyChallenge

Boy accompanies his grandmother on a bus ridge through their neighborhood. How she sees things is very different from how he does. It is set up like a picture book, but the material is good for the older than toddler set. If you're looking for a book that teaches empathy and compassion without beating the kids over the head, this is a good one. #NewberyChallenge
