Ford, Arthur, Zaphod, and Trillian are back for more universal wackiness. They are avoiding capture and death. Zaphod has a mission but he can‘t remember what it is. Just a fun romp through the galaxy. Although I was disappointed that Trillian didn‘t have anything to do. She was so resourceful in the first book.

Richard Jury is in hospital recovering from three bullet wounds from his last case when Melrose Plant overhears a conversation in the bar (The Grave Maurice) across from the hospital about Jury's doctor. It seems the doctor's 15-year-old daughter, Nell, went missing two years earlier along with one of the family's thoroughbred horses.
Jury sends Plant out to the Ryder farm pretending to be interested in horses and investigate. Good mystery.

Adam Dalgliesh is cleaning out his aunt's house which she left to him. There is a serial murderer operating there, The Whistler. Just as the authorities find the body of the Whistler, another woman is found, Hilary Robarts who works at the nuclear power station. She appears to be his final victim. But her death comes after the Whistler's suicide and while many of the signs were right, the details were incorrect. So Dalgliesh lends a hand.

Lily, her mom, and sister, Sam, move in with her sick grandmother (halmoni). One their way into town they are met (although only Lily can see her) by one of the magical tigers from her Korean grandmother's stories. The tiger claims Halmoni stole something from her and if Lily returns it, her halmoni will get better.

The real life matches nicely with the mystical.

Good story. Always like Irving's characters. It really kept me reading about this writer remembering his childhood as a dump kid and how he escaped, but I expected more from the ending. So just a so-so.

Reading this to see if it will be a good read aloud. Could be fun because there are recipes in the back!

More than anyone needs to know about the alcohol we drink, but a lot of fun with a ton of great recipes. Love Stewart‘s voice. I plan on referring to this book when I plant my garden next year so I have good mixers. 😜

Always enjoy looking over Adam Dalgliesh‘s shoulder as he investigates. His calmness and empathy make a wonderful contrast to whatever evil he‘s investigating.

A YA non-fiction about spies. Told how some of the original spy networks were set up in the American Revolution through the modern day computer and electronic surveillance. Early chapters were much more fun when it involved us versus them, but it was not as fun as when our people were spying on ourselves. Liked the chapter that gave us some of the women who worked as spies also and the people who worked as code breakers.

Stevie Bell is home for the summer after solving the Ellingham Murders. She's working at a deli and missing her friends and boyfriend when an email comes to invite her to a camp where 4 infamous murders occurred in the '70s. She can bring her friends. Good story but reader couldn't solve this one, but only suspect who did it because reader didn't have access to some of the info Stevie had.

Starting this one. I always enjoy a trip to Night Vale.

Jane Hawk is investigating her husband's suicide. She begins to research. She gets threatened so she sells the house, takes leave from the FBI, and begins hunting. Good story. Reminds me a bit of the Chris Snow series (which Koontz has yet to finish). Grrrr.

Tilly and Oskar are off on another adventure in the book world. It was Good until the ending. I like the way they incorporate fairy tales and plot holes. Didn't like the ending. Was rather a let down after first book.

Rosie wanted to be a great engineer when someone laughed at one of her inventions. She then hides her tinkering away. She gets brave and tries to make something else for her aunt. She fails but her aunt convinces her to try again.

Delightful. Told in sing song rhymes with fun pictures. Echoes of Rosie the Riveter down to her kerchief.

A look at where our food comes from. The industrial feedlot, the small local farm, hunting and gathering. Just reinforces that you should buy from the little guy because it's more sustainable. Whole section on corn and our dependence on it and how it‘s not natural. Very good reader -- MacLeod Andrews.

A collection of stories set in the Berkshires -- very few seem to be ghost stories. Many about Native Americans spoken of as "savages." Some are morality tales. You can almost hear someone sitting around the fire at night telling one of these meandering stories.

Good for sense of time and early America.

Very helpful and informative. Would recommend this for any woman in her late 30s so she would know what to expect.

Well, like the title says the history of women-led slave revolts. It's Rebecca Hall's journey to find out more information for her dissertation. Her feelings of being buried as a black woman and their journey and how all are overlooked. How her research would wring her out and her struggle to find and untangle the information.

Loved it as a graphic novel and that the author was a character.

The story of Russian composer, Shostakovich, and interwoven with WWII and the siege of Leningrad. Really well-told YA story. Trigger warnings for cannibalism and eating pets.

Jamie can see and talk to ghosts which has both helped and hurt him in his life. This was okay and kept me interested but felt like it is opener for a series.

Rainy day reading. (Don‘t you just hate when stickers don‘t come off of books! 🤬)

Story of young college kid who breaks into the Tring Natural History Museum to steal a bunch (flock) of rare bird skins (299). He was into the art of Victorian fly tying and the author‘s obsession of what happened to all the birds.

Interesting. Good story, great narrator. (MacLeod Andrews)

This was fun. Think Nancy Drew in Victorian times.

Story of a carved doll and her travels around the world. Newbery award winner that probably wasn't very popular. Strike one -- about a doll. Strike two -- not very exciting or if it seemed like it was getting there, that part was glossed over. Strike three -- not very PC with characterization.

This was a wonderful story of a girl learning how to deal with her problems with the help of her family, friends, and professionals, but most of all through the stories of her grandparents. Considering reading this to my middle grade class, but there are thoughts of suicide so have to see.

There is a library that through alchemy can distribute any copy of any book anywhere (like using a tablet or kindle, but with paper). Anyone can read and learn but no one can own books. Jess Brightwell‘s family are black market booksellers, but he‘s been accepted into the library's service. He goes off to Alexandria to learn and finds a whole lot more than he expected. Book was Harry Potteresque with a touch of magical Dickens.

Ask the road which way to go and it reveals that it is all up to you. The road encourages us no matter what we choose, and we learn any direction we choose is the right choice for us to learn.
Good for read aloud and discussion with middle grade students.

Listening to this as I do some work. The things I didn‘t know about our food system!?!

Absolutely gorgeous book! Love the pages where you had to puzzle out the animals and then it leads to poetry and back to beautiful images.

It‘s a little hot to do much more than read books and drink a summer beer.

Ophie can see and talk to ghosts. She finds this out when her dad‘s ghost comes to warn her and her mom to get out before a mob comes for them. They go north. She and mom work at an estate where there are many ghosts and a mystery. One that she will need to use this ability. This was a lot of fun but also showed the reality of being black in 1922.

Went for a hike and then convinced my hiking buddies to stop at this cute used bookstore, Braveheart Books. I could‘ve spent my time exploring but lunch was calling…

Fun take on the fairy tale world visits our world. This is not the cute fairy tales of Disney but the old-school, very Grimm brothers. Kept me reading. Although would like to have read the fairy tales where these characters originate.

Loved this. Loved the idea of a group of people living in a retirement home investigating cold cases instead of playing bingo or something. Loved the side stories. Can‘t wait to read the second book.
