pickA unique dark fairy tale with a lot to say about trauma, motherhood, family, tradition, stories, and patriarchy; a vampire-esque story with a bookish twist and queer characters. Yes: they do actually eat books. This is a book big on ideas/plot, rather than characters. I would have liked a little more attention to the characters' emotional interiors and relationships. Devon's story of ruthless motherly love is left distinctly unfinished. Sequel?
