Alternately creepy as fuck horror and fun 2000s sapphic romance. I loved the integration of Irish folklore and the slice of life details from Dublin university life and the student theatre society. I found both modes equally compelling and was thrilled when they came together. The book's setup is a young woman finds a corpse on a dark road at midnight, thus begins her night of horrors that stretches into her children's lives decades later.

Two recent queer exes who both work at Littenvard *cough IKEA cough* get sent on a trip way above their minimum wage paygrade through a wormhole in their store, where an elderly customer has accidentally wandered.

Wonderful world-building and character work, managed in the small space of a novella. Also, a perfect ending and great #audiobook narration!

Horse Barbie: A Memoir | Geena Rocero

This was great! A fascinating life story from a gifted storyteller who just oozes charm and charisma. Geena Rocero has lived many lives, as a teen trans beauty pageant queen in her native Philippines, a stealth model in the U.S., and as a public speaker, businesswoman, and trans advocate most recently. Recommended in audiobook format, read by the author! #TransBooks #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks #LGBTQ #Trans

I really liked Wilsner's other romances, so I am disappointed to say this one is not doing it for me. It's told in third person present tense and there's a lot of internal monologuing, and that combination killed my desire to keep reading. I made it half way through but I never felt an affinity for or interest in the characters. There were already a few steamy sex scenes, but it's hard to appreciate them if you don't care about the characters.

This memoir is so good!! It traces the author's journey from being a trans beauty pageant queen in the Philippines in her youth to a move to the US and a stealth modeling career to coming out publically as trans. She is very charming and charismatic and reads the #audiobook herself!

Any Other City | Hazel Jane Plante

I am quite sick right now, so not really up to writing a real review, but this was sad and hot and musical and smart. Hazel Jane Plante is such a gift!! Cat Fitzpatrick said in her recent acceptance speech for the Lambda lit award for trans fiction that trans people are writing a disproportionate amount of today's great fiction and I agree!!

An excellently done slow-burn, multiple POV queer mystery that truly surprised me a few times! The writing is fantastically atmospheric; I often felt like I was trapped in a stifling, hot small Australian town too! Sad overall, with a recurrent theme that adults are always letting kids down and are ultimately kind of shitty. I am impressed with the author's decision to not make Sarah (the lesbian cop) a hero, as most crime novels do.

JackOBotts My 5yo picked this as her “picture walk” book when we played school yesterday. I love Ferdinand…personally, this reminds me of being in 1st Grade. 💜 8mo
