DNF at 25% in. My interest in this just kept waning, I'm not entirely sure why, but I have too many books on my TBR to continue with one that isn't really doing it for me! I think maybe too much of this book was weighing on the novelty of the protagonist being a queer, tattooed, smoking nun and once that wore off, I didn't find much to actually keep my interest. Gorgeous cover though!

marleed Haha - I liked but get your perspective. If Sr. Holiday isn‘t doing it for you, the mystery itself is just okay. 2w

A lovely collection. I especially liked the poems to or from the perspective of Frida Kahlo, as well as ones that had images of west coast nature. I have a feeling I missed a number of references. The ones I did get really accentuated the poem's meaning: for example, there's one poem titled "All the Beyoncés and Lucy Lius" after the Outkast song. For bi/queer women of colour representation in poetry this book is especially interesting.

This was a wonderful character-driven novel about three generations of women, all deeply felt and empathetically drawn. Motherhood, abortion, sexuality, career, belonging, friendship, and family relationships are all recurrent themes. I haven't read a novel in a long time like this that felt so truly like it was about real people, a real slice of life in the 1990s and 2010s. I loved how Whittall dealt with the character Missy's bisexuality.

"We break open publicly, a tearing of ourselves... figurative, in the untethering from the narratives we were born into. Our breaking bears evidence to the liquidity and resilience of the human form... To be queer is to be a wound. We wear our hearts on our sleeves because there is a warrant for the public declaration of who we love. Transness, in all of its forms, is a declaration of a love of ourselves, a prioritization of our authenticity."

A lovely bi-for-bi romance about two oddballs with social anxiety finding each other and making a little found family for themselves, their queer (ace and gay, respectively) best friends, a couple dogs, and a quirky little French kid. Just so lovely, there's no other way to describe it. #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks #LGBTQ #BisexualBooks #Romantsy

Finished this while my baby played w/ her blocks! There's a lot of set up in this 1st volume about a dystopian high school on the moon for delinquent students; the plot doesn't get going until near the end. But aesthetically & artistically I loved this so much I didn't care. It feels simultaneously futuristic yet retro, punk and outer space influenced. The dialogue is sharp and funny. I can't wait to see where the three girls go in the next book!

Bathtime reading much deserved and needed after a day with a grumpy teething baby and my partner spending time with a friend who came from out of town. So far the first story in this collection has made me laugh out loud twice, so that's a good sign. #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks
